Welcome from the ISSA President

Elizabeth Pike Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf of the Executive Board of ISSA, it is my privilege to invite you to join us at our annual World Congress for the Sociology of Sport. ISSA has a long history of hosting meetings, with the earliest recorded event taking place in 1964, followed by the formal establishment of the association in 1965.

Through these meetings, ISSA provides networking opportunities which connect people who have a shared enthusiasm for supporting the association’s mission to generate knowledge about sports in society, engage with and inform people and sport policies, and contribute to human development in and through sport.

The theme of this year’s conference “Sport: Challenging Boundaries?” reflects the turbulent times in which many people currently live, work and engage with sports. We invite papers which will stimulate debate and contribute to an enhanced understanding of sports within a variety of social environments.

We look forward to welcoming you to the ISSA World Congress of the Sociology of Sport in Glasgow, July 2012!
