GCU is well placed to host the ISSA World Congress in the Sociology of Sport as it has a strong research culture fostered by multi-disciplinary collaboration and a commitment to social and economic benefit.  Delegates will be able to make contact with scholars with overlapping interests and expertise.  Of note, one key theme of the University’s Institute of Applied Health Research is physical activity, health and ageing.  We are also currently setting up a new venture – Sport@GCU – which brings together scholars from Sociology, Psychology, Politics, Sports Management and Cultural Studies with an interest in sport research and scholarship.  GCU is also one of the stakeholders in the drawing up of the Commonwealth Games legacy agenda.
